Quotes to live by aren’t going to change your life, at least not on their own. Quotes to live by and quotes in general can, however, be catalysts for change.
They (Quotes) are unique in that they can provide profound wisdom in just a few words. Once committed to memory, the right quotes can come in handy when you need to draw upon them.
Quotes to live by can motivate, inspire, and cause you to think about things differently.
The more you think about things differently, the more likely you are to start taking different actions. Over time, taking different actions will change your life.
In a roundabout way, quotes can be an impetus for self improvement and change.
For example, one of my favorite quotes to live by is: “If you really want to do something you’ll find a way, if you don’t you’ll find an excuse.”
This is a quote by Jim Rohn, who was a mentor of the great Tony Robbins.
This quote illuminates a fact that many of us don’t want to face. The fact that we often want things, but not the necessary struggle that comes with obtaining those things.
This quote has popped into my head several times when I’ve set out to do something. It generally makes an appearance the first time I encounter difficulty. When the process is no longer easy. When things get challenging.
Bringing this quote to mind gives me the the chance to decide right then and there if I truly want the thing. If I do, then I must dig my feet in and work through it. If not, I can move on with a clear conscience.
I can be honest with myself about the fact that I didn’t really want it. Saving me from wasting more time, making excuses, and being delusional about the situation.
What usually tends to happen to people is something like the following:
Things get challenging for the person.
The person doesn’t want to do (or feels they can’t do) what needs to be done.
The person attempts to find shortcuts. They don’t work.
They try other shortcuts that don’t work, and still others.
Finally they quit with the excuse “I’ve tried everything” when in reality they just refused to do what was really necessary.
They really didn’t want the journey, they just wanted the destination.
Next time things get difficult, ask yourself “do I really want this or not?” If so, then remember that you can and will find a way. If not, cut your losses and move on.
The above quote might not have any significance for you, but chances are there are at least a few that will.
Check out the list below and see if some of the quotes to live by resonate with you. If they do, commit them to memory and be sure to draw upon them when needed.
One of them could be just what you need at just the right time to help modify your thinking. Armed with new thoughts, have the courage to act on them and behave differently.
Over time, self improvement and change are inevitable.
